Midlife wellbeing for women can sometimes feel complicated, especially when your body suddenly seems to change the rules.
You may notice that you don’t sleep as well as you used to. Your energy can dip, your concentration may not feel as sharp, your weight may change and things that you once coped with easily can suddenly feel more stressful.
For many women, these changes begin during perimenopause and continue through menopause. But rather than simply fighting each symptom individually, it can be helpful to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.
Your body isn’t necessarily asking you to do more. It may be asking you to support it differently.
What changes in midlife?
During perimenopause and menopause, changing hormone levels can affect many areas of the body. Sleep, mood, concentration, energy, appetite and body composition can all be affected.
At the same time, life itself can be particularly demanding. Work, family responsibilities, caring for others and everyday stress can mean that your own wellbeing ends up at the bottom of the list.
This is why I encourage women to look beyond one individual symptom. Nutrition matters, but so do sleep, movement, stress, hydration and the way we look after ourselves day to day.
Small changes across several areas can often feel much more achievable than trying to completely overhaul your life.
What might your body be asking for?
Sometimes the answer is surprisingly simple. Your body may be asking for:
• More nourishing, balanced meals rather than simply eating less.
• More protein and fibre to help support fullness, muscle and digestive health.
• Better quality sleep and a more consistent bedtime routine.
• Regular movement, including walking and strength-based exercise.
• More opportunities to slow down and manage everyday stress.
• Time for yourself without feeling that you always need to be productive.
You don’t need to change everything at once. Choose one area that feels manageable and start there.
Midlife isn’t about becoming a completely different version of yourself. It’s about learning what supports the body you have now.
A holistic approach to feeling better
I believe midlife wellbeing works best when we look at the whole person rather than one symptom in isolation. That means considering nutrition, sleep, movement, stress, emotional wellbeing and the everyday habits that can make a real difference over time.
I also use essential oils and natural wellbeing solutions alongside my coaching where appropriate. Simple rituals using aroma can become part of a relaxing bedtime routine, a moment of calm during a stressful day or a way of creating some much-needed time for yourself.
Most importantly, your approach should work for you. There is no perfect menopause diet, perfect routine or one solution that suits every woman.
Start small. Listen to your body. And give yourself permission to support it differently during this stage of life.
If you’d like personalised support with your nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, stress or general wellbeing through perimenopause and menopause, I offer one-to-one support both online and face-to-face in the Pinner/Northwood area.
