5 Detox Steps For Weight Loss While In The Menopause Stage

Do you feel overwhelmed by weight gain while going through the menopause stage of life? If so, my 5 detox steps for weight loss might give you a boost to put you in the right track.

Hormonal imbalances are often the cause of ongoing weight gain in menopause, and these imbalances can be due to an accumulation of toxins in the body.

So what can happen that makes you gain weight?

When the build up of toxins blocks your liver’s detox pathways, from being continually exposed to toxins such as pesticides, pollution, toxic food, plastics and body products full of chemicals, these pathways get too burdened to work efficiently and weight gain occurs.

Toxins can also cause weight gain by mimicking our own hormones and alter fat deposition. They also alter the way we metabolize sugar and worsen hormonal imbalances in menopause.

Our body has it’s own built-in detox system which it’s quite efficient, however due to the overload from toxins in the environment as well as in processed food, our system needs a little bolstering from time to time.

Everything we eat, drink, inhale and absorb brings in toxins as well as nutrients and healthy ingredients. All these toxins need to be processed, broken down and eliminated from our bodies.

Our liver deals with this, however the liver has more than 500 other jobs to do, so at times it needs to recruit some help so not to get overwhelmed.

There are 5 steps for weight loss while going through the menopause:
  • Using natural products that have a maximum impact to protect our bodies, such as:
  1. Cider Vinegar: Mix 1 teaspoon of vinegar into a glass of filtered water and adding honey or other flavors if needed.
  2. Magnesium: Good magnesium sources such as leafy greens, black beans, oats, avocados, nuts, seeds and bananas.
  3. Antioxidants: They prevent and even stop the damage caused by oxygen free radicals. You can find these in fruit and veg, nuts, whole grains and tea.
  • Sleeping slightly longer: While we sleep our bodies repair our cells and tissue, and our brains detoxes by eliminating over-loaded toxins accumulated during waking hours. Studies have shown that sleeping on your side is the best position to encourage brain detoxification. Make sure you are getting between 7-9 hours of sleep each night, to give your body time to wind down and de-stress.
  • Probiotics help too: Your gut bacteria helps determine how to process food, so gut bacteria is an important tool of natural detox. Your “microbiome” stays balanced by having lots of different types of bacteria. Eating foods with lots of bacteria such as yogurt, sour pickles, kimchi, kefir, miso and sauerkraut helps this process.
  • Eating more detoxifying foods like onions and garlic contain lots of sulfur which is used to detoxify radiation and pollution. They also contain cancer preventative qualities, and they support the digestive system. Other foods containing sulfur are: eggs, red peppers, cabbage, brussels sprouts and cottage cheese.
  • Keep hydrated: The kidneys are the organ used here, to flash toxins out of the body. You need to keep hydrated through the day but being aware that drinking too much water can alter the balance of key electrolytes such as sodium, potassium and chloride. Start your day with a glass of water with some lemon juice as experts say this wakens up your liver and helps flush toxins away. The lemon helps to maintain your body’s alkaline balanced.
Here is a list of foods considered to be toxic:

Alcohol, Caffeine, Dairy Products, Processed Foods, Excess Sugar, Artificial Sweeteners, Preservatives, Food Coloring, Medications, and Pesticides in fruit and veg.
